Purpose: To extend research on date rape beyond college students and analyze descriptions of victims, offenders, the offense, victims' responses, and degree of injury of unmarried women. Method: Uses a sample of 212 unmarried women, 12 years of age and older, from the National Crime Survey data between 1973 and 1982. Reports and compares victim and offense characteristics in acquaintance, well-known, and all nonrelative rapes. Findings: Characteristics of Victim: Approximately 80% of nonrelative rape victims were between the ages of 16 and 34 and 90% were from lower economic levels.
